Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing
Human Movement Project, a Hyde Park-based dance and movement organization, presents two performances of its acclaimed dance theatre work “Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing” on August 8 and 9 at Riverside Theatre Works. This marks the first professional contemporary evening length concert at this venue. Originally premiered in 2021, the piece has since been re-developed and expanded to include new stories and perspectives.
Everyone carries baggage. Moments of shame and awkwardness that linger: a botched hug, a bad high school haircut, times we stayed silent when we should have spoken up. “Contradictions + Casual Self Loathing” offers a window into the layered experience of womanhood and the societal pressure to internalize shame. How do we embrace our contradictions, learn from our discomfort, and find joy in every version of ourselves?

Our very first in-studio showing at Human Movement Lab launched our arts programming in Hyde Park. The sold out concert featured the work of Kim Holman/HMP with Alexandria Nunweiler, Carmen Rizzo, karen Krolak, Olivia Moon, Rose Woods Dance Collaborative, The Click/Angelina Benitez.

We were thrilled to be invited to perform at the Ignite Festival—a global street food, fire, and light festival that took place on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 6–10 PM in Union Square Plaza, Somerville, Massachusetts
September 2024 / Arrow Street Arts Festival
Arrow Street Arts staged a MASSIVE weeklong festival after their full renovation of the former OBERON space in Harvard Square. HMP was chosen to share excerpts of COMMON CIRCUS alongside local dancemakers Public Displays of Motion, Jean Appolon Expressions, United Styles, Yu-Ling Hu and Anubhava Dance.
