Fiscal Sponsorship Program
Human Movement Project is proud to utilize our 501(c)3 status under Luminarium Dance to provide a fiscal sponsorship program for Boston-area artists working towards similar goals—making thoughtful live performance and deepening the availability of the performing arts in Boston’s southwest neighborhoods.

How it Works
Fiscally sponsored artists may utilize the Human Movement Project program to apply for grants otherwise only available to nonprofits and to raise tax-deductible funds.
The program also provides resources, including help with grant writing, 20% off rehearsal rentals at Human Movement Lab, networking with local venues, and more.
The fiscal agent will collect 5% of collected funds for administrative program management.
This 5% is after the approximate 3% taken if the funds come in via credit card and a card processing fee is applied. No processing fee is taken from checks or cash. In the case of a check bouncing, the artist or donor is responsible for the bounced check fee.
Artists or organizations will receive a 1099 annually for income received through the program.
To fulfill our mission of bringing more art to the area, all sponsored artists must produce some type of interactive event in Boston’s southwest neighborhoods.

Artists' Responsibilities
-
No accepted artist may work in an exclusive or discriminatory manner, or in a way that directly or indirectly conflicts with HMP’s mission statement or DEIA statement, found here.
-
Accepted artists must stay in adherence to the HMP/Luminarium policies for the fiscal sponsorship program while part of the program.
-
If applying for a grant, the artist needs to provide a complete draft (at least of the project description section) of their grant 5-7 days in advance of the grant deadline. This rule ensures that HMP can make sure grant projects are more or less compliant with the nonprofits mission statement and philosophies.
-
The artist is responsible for asking for disbursements from their raised funds. Please note that online donations often take 3-5 days to process, and therefore might not be available to the artist for a week after the donation.
-
All artists must agree to one instance (more welcome) of engagement in Boston’s southwest neighborhoods (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan, JP). The event can be casual and small scale. As space and availability permit, artists can access Human Movement Lab at low or no cost for these engagement events, or be pointed towards other no-cost venues.
-
Provide two weeks notice if you plan to leave the sponsored artist program.
3
Fiscal Agent's Responsibilities
-
Provide a platform for collecting funds, hold the donated funds, report them in timely and accurate manner, disperse funds at the request of the artist.
-
Make sure all necessary bookkeeping and record keeping is done and compliant with the IRS.
-
Send a 1099 yearly to the artist, or entity receiving the funds.
-
Provide optional help with grant writing via structured feedback as the artist requests.
-
Connect artists with local venues and cultural event producers as needed.
-
Provide a 20% discount on rehearsal rentals at Human Movement Lab (as time/space permit) and work with the artist on the possibility for hosting low or no cost events at the Lab.

Interested?
Priority for acceptance goes to choreographers, performance-based artists that live and work in proximity to Hyde Park, and those engaging with and rehearsing at Human Movement Lab.
All Boston-area artists are welcome to reach out and see if we might be a good fit, even if you don’t directly fit into the above criteria.
