From the Artist:

Be a part of making meaningful art! I'm fundraising to pay artists, tech crew, designers and general expenses such as venue rental, rehearsal space, and event insurance for my second evening-length dance production: "Lágrimas e Mel" (Tears and Honey). Stemming from the knowledge that tears and honey are the only natural products that do not decompose naturally, this show explores many facets of these two elements and how they interact. From their physical movement qualities, to how they are perceived in a variety of cultures, to metaphors relating to the current political climate, tears and honey offer so much depth to dive into. I hope you'll dive in with us!

This project is made possible by the work of 3 dancers (Claire Lane, Leah Misano and myself), a costume and graphic designer (Ryan Prinz), a photographer and videographer (Jennifer Magnuson - known as Baby Viking Photography), and a lighting designer and tech guru (Andrea Sala). It truly takes a village, and I am excited for you to be a part of mine.

About the Artist

Carmen S. Rizzo, from São Paulo, Brazil, is a dance artist who sees dance in all things non-dance. Recently exploring the neuroscience of dance and of emotion, Carmen choreographs collaboratively, showcasing dancers’ abilities and expressive voices, bridging the gap between science and art. With the goal of debunking that both science and dance are hard to understand, Carmen aims to bring more diversity into dance, making the work more relatable. Carmen’s dance films have been featured in festivals such as Shut in Dance Festival, the DFA College Exchange (Lincoln Center) and OnStage Dance Co’s annual show. Her choreography has recently been performed at NACHMO, Boston WiP, Dance for World Community, Salem Arts Fest, Labworks, WeCreate, Rough Drafts, ArtBeat and Roots and Routes. In 2024 she presented her first evening length production in the greater Boston area.
